SARAH
Sarah,
a long-haired german shepherd, was abandoned in Milton Keynes on bonfire
night 2004, left taped to railings in a car park.
She
was in a dreadful state, obviously having been neglected for a considerable
length of time - not just underfed but her ears were so badly infected
they took months to clear and she was left partially deaf in one ear,
and she also had mammary cancer which had to be operated on as soon
as she was strong enough. Margaret Burke of The Ark Wildlife Hospital
in MK had been called out to collect the dog, luckily for Sarah; she
took one look at the dog’s condition and knew her chances of not
being put down were slim unless we could take her.
Thanks
to MK RSPCA who paid for all Sarah’s expensive veterinary treatment
she appears to have made a full recovery but she will stay as a permanent
resident since there is no guarantee that the cancer won’t appear
elsewhere.
Her
age is unknown, probably 8 or 9, but now she is a happy, well-fed and
loved dog, settled with the other two dogs, Lucy and Jake, as well as
at last being good with the many cats at the sanctuary (we had problems
at first, she wanted to chase every other animal…)
